PLSS Maps

Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is a coordinate system and its maps are created by the Bureau of Land Management. Used in subdividing and describing land in the U.S., land is typically divided into townships, which are then further divided into one-square mile sections, which are then divided into quarter sections, and so on. These maps show all of these divisions. The image above is a PLSS map of Alabama, with the purple highlighted area showing Franklin County townships.
