Propaganda Map

Propaganda maps are maps that are created to influence viewers in a certain way. Propaganda maps can be created through the manipulation of scale, projection, and design and layout and are used to sway opinion or spread a certain way of thinking. A common example of a propaganda map is the one above that was used during the Cold War. This map purposefully uses a Mercator projection so that the Warsaw Pact nations seem a lot more threatening and imposing in size than they truly are. This map was meant to influence how anti-communists felt.
